Chorus isn't code-signed yet, so SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC” on first run. Choose More info, then Run anyway. A certificate is on the list — it just isn't ahead of the client.
You don't have to take our word for what you downloaded. In PowerShell, from your Downloads folder:

What Chorus does about your Minecraft account.
Chorus is a client for the game you already own. It does not include Minecraft, and it will not get you a copy — you need a genuine Minecraft: Java Edition account, bought from Minecraft.net, before any of this is useful to you.
Sign-in goes through Microsoft's own OAuth page, the same one the official launcher uses. You type your password to Microsoft, not to us; Chorus receives a token and never sees the password at all. Nothing about it is stored anywhere but your own machine.
What Chorus will not do, and will not add: supply accounts, share them, generate them, or sign in to servers without one. Cracked and offline-mode logins aren't supported, and asking will not change that. Servers see a normally authenticated player, because that is what you are.
